INSIGHTS — Q+A

A gentle guide to the questions most often asked about my art, process, and practice.

For Collectors & Designers

Do your artworks come with a Certificate of Authenticity?

Yes — every piece includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity with:
• Artwork name
• Edition number (if applicable)
• Date
• Artist signature
Once an edition sells out, it is permanently closed.

What materials do you use?

Wall Sculptures are created from laser-cut MDF layers, hand-sculpted textures, and acrylic matte tonal finishes.
Tonal and Gradient Works are built through layered surfaces, texture, and intentional colour fields.

Are your originals made by hand?

Yes — every artwork is created slowly and intentionally by me in my Brisbane studio.
No two pieces are ever identical, even within the same edition.

How ‘exclusive’ are your limited editions?

Most editions are limited to 10 or fewer.
Once sold out, they are never reproduced.
Each piece includes a Certificate of Authenticity to preserve its rarity and meaning.

Do you work with Interior Designers and Architects?

Yes — my architectural background makes collaboration with design professionals a natural part of my practice. I create artworks for residential interiors, boutique hotels, wellness studios, and commercial spaces.
Contact me for Trade & Designer Enquiries.

Do you provide digital mock-ups for my client presentations?

Yes — I offer scaled digital mock-ups for interiors and design presentations.
They’re tailored to your lighting, palette, and proportions, helping your clients visualise how the artwork will anchor the space

Can you collaborate with my Interior designer?

Absolutely. I regularly collaborate with interior designers and architects to ensure each artwork integrates seamlessly with your material palette, colour story, and spatial design.

Are your artworks suitable for commercial spaces?

Yes — my artworks are designed to bring calm and refinement to commercial interiors.
I can advise on durability, scale, and placement for spaces such as reception areas, studios, wellness rooms, and hotels.

How long does a commission take?

Typically 6–10 weeks, depending on scale and complexity.
I guide you through each stage with updates along the way.
Request the Private Commission Guide for more details: Contact me

What happens after I confirm my commission?

Once confirmed, you’ll receive a private timeline and visual direction board.
We’ll finalise tone, scale, and materials before creation begins.
Throughout the process, I share gentle updates — sketches, textures, and tonal studies — so you feel connected to the piece as it comes to life.

How long will my artwork last?

With proper care, these artworks are designed to last a lifetime.
All materials, finishes, and construction methods are selected for longevity and UV-safe colour integrity.

Can your artworks be placed in spaces with natural light or humidity (like bathrooms or near windows)?

Each artwork is finished with professional-grade, UV-resistant coatings for lasting durability.
While it can be placed near natural light, I recommend avoiding direct sunlight — primarily due to heat rather than UV exposure — as well as high-humidity environments such as bathrooms.
For longevity, please also avoid placing artworks directly above fireplaces unless the area is well insulated from heat.

What is your pricing structure based on?

Pricing reflects:
• Size and scale
• Complexity of texture and sculptural depth
• Time required for layering and curing
• The handcrafted, contemplative nature of each piece
Each artwork is an emotional investment in serenity, presence, and form.

Will my artwork increase in value over time?

Each original and editioned piece is part of a tightly curated, ongoing body of work — collected internationally by private collectors and designers.
While my focus is on emotional and spatial value, the rarity and intention of each piece often enhance its significance over time.
Every artwork is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity to ensure its provenance and value are preserved.

Choosing Your Artwork

I’m not sure where to begin — can you help me choose the right artwork?

Yes — this is one of my favourite parts of the process.
Simply email me:
• A photo of your space
• Wall measurements
• Optional: artworks you’re drawn to or your budget
I’ll send tailored recommendations and scaled mock-ups so you can see how each artwork will live in your space.
(Colour Sample Sets are also available.)

How do I know which artwork will feel right in my space?

Each piece is designed to shift the atmosphere of a room — grounding, softening, and restoring calm.
If you’re unsure, I can guide you through a personalised “tone matching” process based on light, architecture, and mood.

How do I choose the right size?

Size profoundly influences the energy of a piece.
I offer digital mock-ups at no cost — scaled exactly to your wall — so you can visualise each option before deciding.

Do you offer custom sizes?

Yes — I create bespoke sizes for collectors and designers.
Simply share your wall measurements or photos of your space, and I’ll guide you toward the ideal proportion.

What if the artwork doesn’t feel right once it arrives?

Original artworks include a 30-day return period.
If your piece doesn’t feel aligned once you see it in person, you may return or exchange it.
See Shipping & Returns for details.

Can I view artworks in person?

Yes — studio visits in Brisbane are available by appointment.
You’re welcome to experience the tones and textures in natural light.
Selected works are also displayed throughout Australia.
Contact me for locations.

Can you create an artwork that carries a specific meaning or intention?

Yes — many collectors commission artworks for emotional purposes: grounding, clarity, calm, or new beginnings.
These pieces are among my most meaningful to create.

Can your artworks be commissioned as gifts or legacy pieces?

Yes — many collectors commission artworks to mark significant milestones: new homes, anniversaries, births, or transitions.
These pieces are designed with deep intention and can include a private inscription or dedication on the reverse, making them truly personal heirlooms.

Colour & Tone

How do I know the colour will suit my interior?

You can order a Colour Sample Set to explore tones in your own light and space.

What if the colour I need isn’t in your standard range?

I can create a bespoke colour for Limited Editions or Commissions — matched from a paint brand, sample, or reference tone.

Can a 1-of-1 original be made in a different colour?

No — 1-of-1 originals are complete as they are.
However, Limited Editions and Commissions can be created in your preferred tone.

Will the artwork change colour over time?

All paints and coatings are UV-stable for longevity.
Your piece is designed to maintain its tone when properly cared for.

Framing & Care

What framing options are available?

Most sculptures use a 2cm floating frame in raw oak or a painted finish.
Large-scale pieces may use deeper 35mm panels for stability.
Custom framing options are available on request.

Can I order a piece unframed?

Yes — Limited Editions and Commissions can be purchased unframed.
(1-of-1 originals are pre-framed and cannot be altered.)

How do I hang the artwork?

Each piece includes a secure wall bracket.
If you prefer a custom hanging system, I can advise on safe options for your scale and wall type.

How should I care for the artwork?

Gently dust with a soft, dry cloth.
Avoid moisture, oils, and direct sunlight.
Treat your artwork as you would a handcrafted object — with presence, not effort.

Are the 3D Wall Sculpture artworks heavy?

Each piece is made from layered MDF for strength.
A 92 × 92cm artwork weighs approximately 15kg and includes a secure bracket system.
If needed, your local installer can mount it safely in minutes.

Do you offer installation or aftercare support?

I can coordinate with your installer or designer to ensure your artwork is safely and beautifully displayed.
After installation, I provide a simple care guide for maintaining tone and texture over time.

About the Artist

Who is Sureen Gouws?

I am a South African–Australian artist based in Brisbane, creatingsacred minimalist artworksthat transform overstimulated spaces into sanctuaries of calm.
My work merges architecture, light, and emotion — each piece a study instillness, presence, and quiet beauty.

What inspires your work?

My inspiration begins in silence — through ritual, geometry, and the architecture of feeling.
I’m drawn to thresholds (dawn, dusk, pause), shifting light, and the human longing for calm in a fast world.
My journey through neurodivergence, motherhood, and healing informs everything I create.

What does “Forms of Serenity” mean?

Forms of Serenity is my signature philosophy and collection series — describing the sculptural forms I craft as:
• Visual mantras
• Emotional anchors
• Architectural sanctuaries

Each piece is designed not only to be seen but to be felt — a presence that restores balance and breath.

What emotions do your artworks evoke?

Collectors describe feelings of:
Stillness • Grounding • Softness • Clarity • Belonging • Reverence • Spaciousness

Each piece is created to gently regulate the nervous system and create calm, contemplative spaces.

What makes your artwork distinct?

My work merges architectural minimalism with emotional sensitivity and slow, intentional craftsmanship.
Each piece is designed not just to decorate — but to shift energy.
Guided by proportion, texture, and intuition, I create artworks that bring serenity into modern interiors.
A portion of every sale supports Operation Smile Australia, bringing life-changing cleft surgeries to children worldwide.

Still have questions?

Each artwork begins with a question — about light, emotion, and form.

If yours isn’t answered here, I’d love to hear it.
